Adobe Upgrades

25 September 2009

Hot off the press. It’s that time of year for Adobe’s regular upgrade of their user-friendly graphics and video-editing software. Now available: Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 (Win & Mac), Adobe Premier Elements 8 and the Photoshop Elements 8 & Premiere Elements 8 Bundle. They come with either a $20 or $30 mail-in rebate, which makes them even more of a bargain.  I’ve used Adobe products since my grandmother was hoisting me around over her shoulder and I’d be truly lost without them. Go see what’s new.

Scanning Photos

7 November 2008

Every once in awhile I get into a photo-starvation state. So many ancestors, so relatively few photos and when I ask, this is what I get: “There are no more family photographs, you have them all.” Then, when I get really busy with something else, someone finds another batch and sends them off to me for scanning.

Adobe Flash Player

19 October 2008

If you are using Internet Explorer and notice large gaps on some pages of this website and wonder what they are, they’re videos. If you’d like to see them, install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player. It’s free and it will take only a few seconds. Otherwise, switch to Firefox. Firefox will tell you when you need a plug-in instead of leaving you in a hole.

Photo Filing 3

22 March 2008

Email from a reader:

I have studied all your postings on digital photo organization. I am at a brick wall and I need some help.

I have been using Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0. I like the way it functions. However, for some reason, it keeps crashing on my computer. I believe this is because the program was written such a long time ago that XP is having difficulty with it.

More IPTC

2 March 2008

I had a touch of insomnia last night so I decided I’d zip through the weeks’ collection of things to look at. I made it through 8 of 100. So much for zipping at 3AM. Deleted 6, downloaded and installed trials of the other two. Both winners.

I’ve never thought of a single reason to applaud Microsoft. They design junk. IMHO. They’ve got more money than God and you’d think they could do better. I use the XP operating system out of sheer laziness. No other reason. As all my regular readers know, my hate of Internet Explorer is a raging inferno. Hate is an understatement. I pride myself on my self-control in this matter.

But they’ve finally come up with something that I would have chewed my toenails off for. It’s been around for a year and I never knew. It’s called Photo Info. My thanks to Jean-Marie over at the Legacy User Group for this tip.
