EverNote 2.2The following was submitted for posting by a regular JLog reader. It addresses compatibility issues with the EverNote 2.2 clipper button. The purpose of the workaround is to be able to paste directly to EverNote as was possible in earlier browser versions.

I haven’t tried it yet. Please report back if you do. I have installed click.to and it looks simple enough to work with. Even if you’re not interested in EverNote 2.2click.to is a fascinating and useful tool. …[continued]

EverNote 2I think years from now people will still be talking about EverNote 2 as one of the best programs ever built. And I have harped on about the sheer genius of it. So, this might come as a shock. …[continued]

EverNote 2I’ve been using EverNote 2 for years, and I never noticed this before.

Under File on the menu is an option called Import Wizard. What this does is import individual files if they’re text, html or images. This can be done once or set for Auto-Import on a continual basis. …[continued]

One of the most popular queries that brings searchers to JLog is EverNote. The sub-text is often ‘software like evernote’, which makes me wonder why anyone is looking for an EverNote replacement. I have my theories. …[continued]

EverNote 2It was a long month at the college. According to my contract, I’ve already worked all my allotted hours for 2010. I’m sure they won’t need another thing until 2011.

The other day I had to purchase Excel because that’s what my life has come to. I resisted as long as I could. So that meant I had to purchase Microsoft Office which meant I had to purchase a Microsoft product. It could have been worse; I could have fallen off the roof.

Which brings me to talking about OneNote which came along with it. This is a bit convoluted so just hang in there.

I made a passing acquaintance with OneNote a long time ago when I was much younger and impressed by such things. Just imagine being able to type a note or make a drawing with your choice of 20 different colors and sizes of pens and drag it around on your screen. Wow! In about 10 minutes I was tired of too many choices and decided even if I had the $100 to pay for it I’d keep the money for something else. …[continued]

So, it would appear I gave the impression I’ve retired from JLog. And that would be mostly true right now. Between school and school it’s a busy life.

People have unsubscribed in droves, but there’s a few of us left.

Turning to today’s subject: Does anyone have a favorite notes program? All purpose note-taker, note-organizer thingamabob? I tried for the fourth time to upgrade to EverNote 3 and I still can’t get my mind around it. I don’t know what they’re imagining over there for the future but the way the recent past has been going it’s not looking good.

EverNote 3.0

9-29-2008

EverNote 3I’ve been dragging my feet about upgrading to EverNote 3. EverNote 2 is still available for download but they’ve dropped it on its head and someday it will be gone. Life without EverNote of some kind is unfathomable.

When I was a kid, there was a contest on the radio that went something like this:

When you hear the sound of the gong, call into Station XYZ. The first caller will win a hit single by … (I’ve forgotten the name but it was a highly desirable item at the time.) For the younger crowd, ‘singles’ came before LP’s (I think) which came before 8-tracks which came before cassettes which came before CD’s which came before MP3 players and stealing music from the Internet.

More EverNote

EverNote 2I started using EverNote back when it was barely out of the womb and for awhile I was a beta-tester. Since then they have been adding features and leaping on ahead of what I’ve learned so far, and so fast I can’t keep up. Now they’re off on Version 3 (out in beta) where you’ll be able to store your notes and clips on the web so you can have access to them anywhere. On your mobile phone too, if you have one, the database synchronized between all devices and your desktop, with the ability to email your ‘notebooks’ to whom you please. Now that they mention it, I can see a few thousand uses for that.

Sometimes … well, OK, most of the time … my mind is ticking away on 20 to 30 different plans, problems, ideas and possible solutions. I don’t know how a mind can be that busy but mine is. If another useful thought whizzes by I have to snatch it in a nano-second or it’s gone. If this sounds familiar, enter the lowly post-it note.

EverNote 2.2Most of us have random collections of this, that and everything on our computers. And when I started doing genealogy research my chaos increased exponentially. I spent days and weeks inventing and re-inventing and re-organizing my “notes from everywhere” around myriad systems. When I found EverNote and got with the program, as they say, most of that trouble ended.
